![]() ![]() When the job was complete, ECI received the points from our client and entered them into our standard format. ![]() ECI was engaged by our client to produce the As-Built report. As with many construction companies nowadays, this contractor had GPS and was comfortable taking their own shots. ![]() Their client, a municipal town, wanted a surveyor to take all of the As-Built shots because that was their regular practice, but the contractor declined it. One of our clients is a Massachusetts general contractor doing business in Connecticut. Let us share a story that is an excellent example of the point we are trying to make in this blog. Clarifying expectations upfront will save you from going back out and reshooting any data that was missed in the data collection step and making a revision to the As-Built PDF plan-set. These requirements establish a method of taking topo shots for that job and then formatting that data in the CAD file and the PDF, to deliver expected results. We highly recommend that you speak with the end-user (this could be the town, engineer, DOT, whoever the job is for) about the As-Built drawing and understand what s/he expects to have for data and what format they would like to see it in. In some cases, standard requirements are not defined in the contract but instead state that the As-Built print and CAD files be provided on a thumb drive. By utilizing an As-Built checklist, you can learn upfront the appropriate data and expected format expected for the report. Each town, DOT, and private general contractor has different expectations for the information and formatting of the As-Built data. There are general rules of thumb, such as rim elevations and inverts, but there is no global standard to be followed. ![]() One of the things that we have learned about As-Builts is that to-date, there is no such thing as 'standard' when it comes to the expected output of an As-Built report. They reflect changes made during the construction process. When it comes to As-Built drawings, one size does not fit all! As we learned in our most recent blog, The Value of As-Built Points for Waterlines, As-Built drawings are modified sets of drawings submitted by a contractor upon the completion of a job. ![]()
